This page is intended to help people to manage this website now and in the future. If you have a login password click on the login button at the bottom right.

The website runs on fantastic (free) software called WordPress designed for blogs. On top of WordPress is a theme which is like a template which defines all the layout, colours, text sizes which give the site its appearance. This has been updated to a new theme, called twentyeleven, which is easier to maintain.

There are 2 main types of webpages within WordPress:

  • Pages
  • Posts

What you are reading now is a Page. It has a link button at the very top and has a fixed position within the website structure. I suggest there should really be a limit of 5 or 6 static pages, for example

    • Home
    • About us
    • Admin
    • Forms
    • Find Us

Most content on the website is in the form of Posts. Each time a new post is added, it is added to the home page, with previous posts moved downwards. How can posts be organized? Firstly they appear on the website in the order in which they are added. The “home” page of the site therefore allows an overview. They are assigned a “category”. These categories are listed along the “ribbon” red bar, and clicking the category within this bar will filter the posts to those which have been assigned with the category.

So for example if each newsletter is assigned the category “newsletter”, then clicking on the newsletter tab in the ribbon bar will list only the newsletter posts.

So if you are adding a new entry to the website, add it as a Post!
In addition to Posts and Pages, there are widgets down the right hand side. These are edited within the “appearance” section of the Dashboard, and are more tricky to update, so you will need to be an “administrator” to change these. Let me know what you want from them, or if you feel ready to step up to “administrator” level.

I have added a “widget” to allow editing of the website from the “front-end”, when you are logged in, most of the text aspects of the page have now become “clickable”. This should make small edits and corrections even easier, especially as the front-end editor is WYSIWYG.
